Overview
MaintLog ("the App") is a personal vehicle and property maintenance tracker developed by Johnson Ventures LLC d/b/a CodePilot Studios ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.
Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally on your device using your device's secure storage:
- Asset profiles (vehicles, home, appliances, equipment)
- Maintenance tasks, due dates, and service history
- Service costs, notes, and technician records
- Photos attached to service records
- Documents stored in the Pro Vault
- App preferences (theme, units, region, language, notifications)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the Export or Backup features, in which case you control where the file is saved or shared.
Device Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions:
Camera
Used to scan VIN barcodes and take photos for service records. Photos are saved locally on your device only.
Photo Library
Used to attach existing photos to service records and the Pro Vault. Access is only requested when you initiate an attachment action.
Notifications
Used to send local maintenance reminders when tasks are due or upcoming. All notifications are generated on-device; no notification data is sent to external servers.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing the data they collect.
Google AdMob (Advertising)
Free users see banner and rewarded video advertisements served by Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers and advertising data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads. All ad requests are configured with non-personalized ads only to minimize data collection. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
RevenueCat (In-App Purchases)
Pro upgrade purchases are processed through RevenueCat, which manages subscription and entitlement verification via the platform's native purchase system (Google Play or Apple App Store). RevenueCat may collect purchase transaction data. See their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Amazon Associates (Affiliate Links)
When you tap a "Buy on Amazon" button next to a part number, you are redirected to Amazon.com with a search query. Amazon may collect data in accordance with their privacy policy at amazon.com/privacy.
NHTSA API (Vehicle Data)
When you enter a VIN or look up vehicle specifications, the App queries the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public API. This request transmits your VIN or vehicle year/make/model to NHTSA's servers to retrieve recall information and vehicle specifications. NHTSA is a U.S. government agency; see their privacy policy at nhtsa.gov/privacy-policy.
Children's Privacy
MaintLog is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Data Security
Because all app data is stored locally on your device, the security of your maintenance records depends on the security of your device (screen lock, encryption settings, etc.). We recommend keeping your device software up to date and enabling device-level encryption.
Backup files exported from the App are unencrypted JSON or CSV files. Store and share them as you would any sensitive personal document.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect or store your data on any external servers, you have full control over your data at all times. You can:
- Delete any asset, task, or service record directly within the App
- Export a full backup of your data at any time via Settings → Export Data
- Uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data from your device
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
